D. Glenn Arthur Jr.*, the Table Of Contents page

I've got a lot of different things on my web site: definitions, tutorials, information about various bands, essays/songs/poetry, photos, and, of course, personal stuff to tell you who I am. Bands and other musical organizations

I play in some, but not all, of these groups.

Wild Oats, a Folk-rock/Celtic-rock/Classic-rock trio. (Order the CD, "A Few Brief Shining Moments"!)
Thrir Venstri Foetr (aka Three Left Feet) and Playford Spice, an historical dance troupe and the band that plays for them. Playford Spice (the band) also performs separately from Thrir Venstri Foetr (the dancers).
The Homespun Ceilidh Band, playing Celtic (Scottish, Irish, Manx, Welsh, and Cape Breton) folk music. (Our first CD, Spinning Reels is now available!)
Sylvan Ayres, which plays medieval and renaissance music on period instruments.
Skye Gathering, a Celtic quartet (fiddle, cello, harp, and bodhran).
Mac-talla, a Scottish Gaelic singing group.
The Beltway Early Music Band, performing music from several centuries on whatever instruments are at hand.
The Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club, a club for folks who like to play (or want to learn to play) Scottish fiddle music. It's not just for fiddlers, despite the name -- other instruments are just as welcome.

Assorted information on assorted topics

A short tutorial about figuring what notes are in a chord given its name.
An explanation of the circle of fifths.
A brief description of "filk" music.
An introduction to playing the oud, for guitarists.
Descriptions of several musical instruments, mostly (but not entirely) early or obscure ones. Several medieval/renaissance instruments, a few ethnic ones, and even a couple of commonplace modern Western instruments.
