I don't think I can quote the entire text of "The Quest" here for copyright reasons, but it shouldn't be hard to find.
"The Quest" tells of a knight returning from battle, badly banged up but not giving up. The chorus is:
So here is my lance to mend
Here is my horse to be shot
Aye, they were strong; the fight was long
But I paid as good as I got. I paid as good as I got!
Describing the hard-fought battle, in the last verse the knight promises to fight again, his spirit unbroken.
Leslie Fish is a well known filker who has set a number of Kipling's poems to music. Her melody and chords for "The Quest" are available in volume II of _The_Westerfilk_Collection_.
